Coming Together: Our community events

SGS Munich Whole School

In recent months, our school has been abuzz with a myriad of events aimed at providing opportunities for everyone to connect—especially those who are new to our school or to the city. These occasions play a vital role in making our school a welcoming space.

Contributing significantly to the creative planning and execution of these events is our dedicated team of parents known as the St. George's Family Community (SGC) team. Hopefully, you've heard of this group of parents! These enthusiastic volunteers collaborate closely with the school to organise a diverse range of activities. Whether it's sprucing up our spaces with decorations, orchestrating engaging games, or rallying a supportive community, these parents have proven to be an invaluable asset.

We would like to thank the SGC for their truly positive impact on our school, their boundless energy and imaginative contributions. We also extend our thanks to all the other parents who regularly join in, transforming our school into magical spaces for our students.

If you happen to spot members of the SGC around the school and feel inspired to contribute to the fun, don't hesitate to approach them or reach out at [email protected] !

Ms. Thomlinson, active parent and integral part of the SGC, shares its spirit with us:

´Our group was really born out of the desire for our kids to have a place to trick or treat. Another parent, Claire (Guest) and I talked with the school administration and they enthusiastically agreed to let us give it a try. We had hoped for 50 kids to join…that number became 350. After the initial success of trunk or treat, it became quite apparent that our growing school community was interested in continuing on with future events and activities.

Although our school has always offered a rich social calendar, this was something a little bit different and perhaps another piece of the rich tapestry that makes up our wonderful school. Very soon after we were joined by Ane, Barbara, Christina and Natalia. What was once two, became six and now 15 months later, we have an impressive 25 members. This would not have been possible without our incredible volunteer network. This team is one of the most collaborative, creative and colorful groups that I have ever had the pleasure to work with. Their dedication to both SGC and St. George’s school is second to none. With this team behind us, I know that we can do anything!

We are also incredibly grateful to the parents who have embraced and supported us the whole way. It truly feels as if we have all built something very special together. We have a lineup of fantastic events and activities planned for 2024! Hope to see you there!´

Below is a brief retrospective, highlighting some of the memorable events we´ve hosted this year:

Carnival - February:

Our dining hall underwent a delightful transformation into a sprawling recreation area, complete with games, face painting, and treats.

King Charles Coronation Party - May:

We created our very own St. George´s street party, featuring an array of games, a drawing contest and delectable typical UK treats.

Summer Fair - June:

We hosted our Summer Fair with a comprehensive programme of choirs, sport, fun games, charity booths, environmently friendly activities, and food trucks serving up fancy food and drinks.

Car boot sale and Ski sale - May and November:

Regularly, our school transforms into a bustling fairground with plenty of opportunities for second-hand items, from bikes and skateboards to ski equipment.

Middle School Disco - October:

A nostalgic journey into the ´80s, the Middle School Disco allowed students to raid their parents´ wardrobes for an after-school party filled with games, a buffet and dancing!

Halloween Party - October:

The event was nothing short of amazing, with parents creatively decorating their trunk to offer students fun games and treats. A costume parade and contest added an extra layer of excitement to the festivities.

Winter Fair - December:

This year´s Winter Fair featured an incredibly popular international buffet, showcasing delicacies from over 15 nations. Dozens of stalls hosted by our students sold their creations, providing them with a bit of pocket money or charity donations. Pupils and staff choirs warmed our hearts on a snowy evening, just before one of Munich´s biggest snowfalls in recent years.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to these fantastic events, making our school a vibrant and inclusive community. We look forward to many more exciting moments in the coming year!!
